Is Obama smarter than a 5th Grader?

In Opinion on May 4, 2011 at 5:28 pm

The airwaves (OK, I only really watch MSNBC, so not sure how widespread it is, but I think that network is indicative of the tone of the media in general) are full of praise for President Obama’s brave, courageous. brilliant act of leadership – the act of giving the order to capture or kill Osama bin Laden.

Another theme is how remarkable it is that, during the days and weeks before the raid on bin Laden’s home, the President was able to keep that issue in his head at the same time he dealt with Donald Trump, flew to Alabama to see the tornado damage and give a joke-filled speech at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner.  God, what an amazing mind he must have if he can juggle all those trivial matters at the same time he’s got profound things going on around him.  They’ve even made a big deal out of the fact that the President was EVEN able to NOT tell anyone about the secret plan to raid bin Laden’s home on Sunday night, even while, on Saturday, a mere 24 hours before, he was at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner and Seth Meyer made a joke about ‘where is Osama bin Laden’!

Hmmmm.  Let’s look at this.  The most hated man on the planet.  The man who had been Number 1 on the FBI “Most Wanted List” for 13 years.  The man who planned the murder of thousands of innocent men, women and children.  A man who has sworn to destroy America and the Western world.  It was difficult and brave to conclude it was a good idea to go after that guy?!  Really?

AND, He even can multi-task!  AND KEEP SECRETS!  Can we repeal the 22nd Amendment!?  Can you say Sainthood?

So, Brave and Courageous?  The only sense that the President was being brave is that it would have hurt him politically had the mission failed.  He was not in any danger.  The Navy Seals were.

Brilliant leader?  Do what one has sworn to do – defend the nation.  Do what one has said would be done over and over.  Do what virtually every non-violent person on the planet wants done.  Those are brilliant acts of leadership?????

Ask yourself – Do you know any 5th graders who would fail that test of intelligence and character?  Recommend killing the bad guy, play with your playmates nicely, clean your room and don’t tell your mom that I promised to take you to Baskin Robbins later tonight.  Hell, both of my sons would have passed that test in kindergarten (but they’re special guys!).

Is this really the best we can do?  We need a better brand of politician – and SOON.
